Counselling Service
What is Counselling and Psychotherapy?
There may be times throughout our lives when we feel that we cannot cope with all that life is throwing at us. At these times it may be helpful to seek counselling or psychotherapy and a chance to talk to someone who is specially trained to listen and to help you make sense of your feelings. Just sharing your problem in a confidential and nonjudgmental environment can help you develop understanding about yourself and can empower you to make important choices and decisions about your life.
Counselling is often sought in times of crisis and offers a safe and supportive space where you can work through your emotions, develop an understanding and acknowledgement to make positive choices which reduce the difficulties/problems you are facing.
Psychotherapy tends to be a much deeper and longer process which is designed to enhance personal and spiritual self-development by considering the effect of past history and relationships on current ways of behaving and relating to others.
People seek counselling and psychotherapy for a variety of reasons including:
Confidentiality and Ethics
As registered members of the UKCP and BACP therapists are bound by and work within these Code of Ethics and Practice. The therapists undertake regular supervision as required by the regulating bodies. All sessions are confidential. Each client is given a written contract, which covers this and other points such as cancellation of sessions.
Getting Started
We have a number of counselling therapists. For further information, please contact The Body Factory on 0208 861 1555.
During the initial consultation your therapist will begin to explore what is happening for you, what your needs are and what expectations you have of counselling and will take you through the way we work. Then the therapists will decide whether counselling would be suitable for you and if so book on-going counselling sessions for an agreed specified time. Sessions are usually 50 minutes.
Our Psychotherapists offer both short and long-term individual and couple counselling.
Continuity is very important in the therapeutic process. In recognition of the commitment that we are making to this process we will always provide a regular time each week that will be held solely for you until the therapy concludes.
