What is Counselling and Psychotherapy?

There may be times throughout our lives when we feel that we cannot cope with all that life is throwing at us. At these times it may be helpful to seek counselling or psychotherapy and a chance to talk to someone who is specially trained to listen and to help you make sense of your feelings. Just sharing your problem in a confidential and nonjudgmental environment can help you develop understanding about yourself and can empower you to make important choices and decisions about your life.

Counselling is often sought in times of crisis and offers a safe and supportive space where you can work through your emotions, develop an understanding and acknowledgement to make positive choices which reduce the difficulties/problems you are facing.

Psychotherapy tends to be a much deeper and longer process which is designed to enhance personal and spiritual self-development by considering the effect of past history and relationships on current ways of behaving and relating to others.

Confidentiality and Ethics

As registered members of the UKCP and BACP therapists are bound by and work within these Code of Ethics and Practice. The therapists undertake regular supervision as required by the regulating bodies. All sessions are confidential. Each client is given a written contract, which covers this and other points such as cancellation of sessions.

Getting Started

We have a number of counselling therapists. For further information, please contact The Body Factory on 0208 861 1555 or the psychotherapists who work as "Mind First" - Visit the Mind First website.

During the initial consultation your therapist will begin to explore what is happening for you, what your needs are and what expectations you have of counselling and will take you through the way we work.  Then the therapists will decide whether counselling would be suitable for you and if so book on-going counselling sessions for an agreed specified time. Sessions are usually 50 minutes.

Our Psychotherapists and "Mind First" therapists offer both short and long-term individual and couple counselling.

Continuity is very important in the therapeutic process. In recognition of the commitment that we are making to this process we will always provide a regular time each week that will be held solely for you until the therapy concludes.

‘Everyone should have some therapy at least once in their life’

‘These four months coming here have changed my life’

‘I’m feeling much better than I was when I first came here’

‘I feel understood’

I don’t get those headaches anymore’

Micheline Greenberg - MBACP

Accredited Psychodynamic Counsellor and Psychotherapist

I work with the child within the adult. The work of Freud, Jung and Klein and others explain how our childhood experiences moulds us into the adults we become. We pick up baggage along the way, situations not dealt with satisfactory which leave us with emotional sometimes physical pain and prevent us going forward to live healthy productive lives. Psychodynamic therapy means working with the mind - psych means mind and dynamic means movement - I work with thoughts and emotions in the past, in the present and in the room.

My training was an intense four year course at The Manor House Centre of Counselling Psychotherapy including a Parent Infant Observation Course. This training prepared me to be a therapist and work in the community. Of course my training never finishes I continue attending small courses and workshops to keep me ahead of new research and refresh my knowledge.

I have considerable experience and worked for four years within the Woman's Sector working with women and young children who had suffered domestic abuse, this abuse was physical, emotional, financial or sexual. Also I have experience working within the NHS and spent a number of years working in a large teaching hospital as a psychotherapist, working within the Mental Health Department.

I also volunteer and work as a sessional therapist in a local Counselling Centre, where I have worked for many years and this is on going.

I offer one to one counselling/psychotherapy with adults and also relationship/couple counselling and I abide by the rules laid out by my professional body BACP.
